  • Shingle Roof Installation

Modern Solutions in the Shingle Industry Deep East Texas Roofing & Construction begins every shingle job by removing the old shingles. Multiple layers of shingles add much additional weight to the roof structure which can cause rafters and decking to sag, a condition that is very difficult to correct. Moisture can become trapped between multiple layers of shingles, resulting in a shorter lifespan of the new layer of shingles. After replacing decking as needed, we cover the roof with synthetic underlayment. Synthetic underlayment is the modern alternative to traditional tar paper, which is susceptible to tearing in hot weather and dry rotting or cracking with time. Synthetic underlayment is a thin tarp-like material and is a required component for us to maintain our Preferred Contractor Status and offer extended warranties. Each valley and leak-prone area of the roof receives a self-sealing, waterproofing barrier from Owens Corning® called WeatherLock® Mat. This solution offers many advantages: Self-heals around nails driven through it Completely waterproof 16” wider than the traditional metal valley Great for low-slope areas Great for leak-prone areas such as chimneys and sidewall flashing We then use Owens Corning® starter-strip shingles around the entire outside perimeter of your roof. Starter shingles are vitally important during a windstorm. They adhere to the bottom edge of your shingles—unlike the “upside-down three-tab shingle” method many roofers use to minimize costs. Starter shingles are also required by the manufacturer for the shingle’s wind warranty Today, most homes are built with a ridge vent, a plastic vent strip installed on the roof ridge, and covered with shingles. This allows hot air to flow out of your attic properly. Ridge vents are also necessary to prevent a condition called blistering in which shingles will “bake” from the underside due to excessive attic heat. If you still have “whirlybird” vents, ask us about upgrading to ridge vents. We will cut the plywood decking back approximately 2″ down each side of the ridge, then install the new ridge vents. The ridge cap shingles are hand-nailed with special nails, which protects them during a storm. We’ll Clean Up for You! Our goal is to leave your yard cleaner than we found it. We normally throw the old layer of shingles straight from the roof into a dump trailer to avoid a huge mess in your yard. In addition, we position tarps on the ground to catch small pieces of shingles and granules that slide off the roof. We make several trips around your yard to ensure all trash has been collected. Finally, we run a large magnet on wheels to collect any stray roofing nails that may have missed the tarp.
